Amstrad Sinclair Ocio + Megaocio (Spain, 1989-1992)

New entry and the first profile of one of so many magazines dedicated to our 'oldies goldies' home computer machines. To start, I'll begin my blogging journey with a Spanish magazine that was launched in late 80s. So, here we go...

"Amstrad Sinclair Ocio" (ASO, for brief) magazine was the subsequent sequel to Spanish "Amstrad User" magazine, dedicated exclusively to the world of Amstrad. Once Amstrad acquired Sinclair in 1986, this magazine started its commercial life few years later. dedicated to both computer systems (Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum). Indescomp S.A. was the main editorial, being at the same time the official distributor of Amstrad and Sinclair products in Spain.

From issue 15 on, ASO changed its name to Mega Ocio, but continued the numbering of the previous magazine, covering all 16-bit systems, as computers as consoles. The last issue was published in April of 1992.

In most of ASO and Megaocio issues, main cover has been always a complete artwork designed by illustrator Miguel Alcón (1964 - 2022). From issue 21 onwards, concept compositions using photographs, linear drawings, logos and screenshots were used as covers.

"The magazine was published monthly. In its early days, the publisher focused on the Amstrad CPC home computer, highlighting its listings in Basic for readers to type on their computers. Most of the listings were for 8-bit computers, making it a magazine for advanced, but not professional, users.

It also highlights the "Big Chipo History" section, coordinated by Andrés Samudio, one of the pioneers of conversational adventures in Spain, creator of the famous conversational adventure game "Cozumel." This section provided clues and solutions to various games of the time, thus responding to its readers' needs.

Over the years, the CPC's theme was abandoned to focus on consoles and the Commodore Amiga computer. Some photos in its articles, which reached half a page, were taken directly from the computer monitors of the time, highlighting their "scanlines." This computer entertainment magazine was characterized by not only being dedicated to video games, but also, as previously mentioned, to listings in Basic, many of them compiled by the magazine's own readers, including hardware, solutions, products, etc.

It was a magazine whose publications were based on current events, the current market, events, new products, seminars and conferences, analysis of any problems its readers might encounter, word processors, music programs, design, drawings, educational topics, peripheral analysis, etc. Its hardware and game reviews were ultimately based on 16-bit computers. The magazine ended with a flea market and a consulting service on its back pages." (translated from Amstrad ESP)

PROGRAMS: As mentioned before, type-ins were published in most of ASO and Megaocio issues, until nº 32, for both type of most popular 8-bit computers of their time, as for Amstrad CPC users as for Sinclair ZX Spectrum ones. Some of them with long machine code routines to type in patiently, employing the proper m/c loader in every case. Games and tools for every reader and enjoy with.

However, pokes + cheat loaders appeared in every ASO issue to make easier your gaming experiences aren't included in this list, except if someone feels interested on them.

Finally, some of the following type-ins were preserved and available for free from these sources. Just copy and paste full address in a new tab of your favorite net browser:

Welcome 8-bit lovers

Hi,

I'm Neil Parsons, from Spain. Some people may know of me from Spectrum Computing forums and other 8-bit related sites, mostly dedicated to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer. So, this is my new blog and with it I expect to publish from time to time the full contents of those BASIC listings to be typed in from computer and video games magazines around the world. From UK, Spain, Denmark, Germany and other European countries.

The plot of this blog is to display all programs which appeared in those publications, like Sinclair User, Your Spectrum, MicroHobby, ZX, Todospectrum, Computer Kontakt, Homecomputer, Hebdogiciel, Soft Special (Denmark), etc., just to have a close information of them for any purpose (database, software management, full filling info for other websites,...)

Every entry in this blog will be dedicated to one concrete magazine, in which I'll add the best information I could get of it via Internet or just analysed by myself, followed by a complete list of all BASIC programs published in its pages. Info provided consists on issue number, title, system, author or authors (if there are more) and pages, in this particular order.

ISSUE    TITLE                  SYSTEM      AUTHOR(S)             PAGES

For example: From Soft Special magazine

  Title                  System         Author/s             Pages

====================================================================

1   Simple Logo            ZX Spectrum    Maz Spork            6-7
Manelokomotiv          Commodore 64   Kurt Andersen        8
    UFO-Flight             Commodore 64   Peter Brovil         9
Tekst Behandling       Piccolo        Lars Christiensen    10-11
Gunfight               ZX Spectrum    Claus Brock          12
Turborace              ZX Spectrum    Thøger Lyme          13
    Slimi                  Commodore 64   Software-Team        14-15

...

Note: List in preparation. Info and issues of Soft (Special) magazine, try: https://archive.org/search?query=danish+soft+magazine

This will be the structure of every list you can find here from now on. Specific home computer system magazines like Your Spectrum, Todospectrum, Commodore User or COMPUTE!'s Gazzette don't need of 'system' column in my lists, except if there is any different model of a same home computer trademark mentioned for each type-in (i.e.: Commodore 64, Commodore 128, VIC-20 and Commodore 16-Plus 4). Many of those 8-bit systems had their particular place in most of those magazines: Sinclair ZX-81, Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16K, Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K, Lambda 8300, Commodore VIC-20, Commodore 64, Commodore 16/Plus-4, Oric-1, Oric Atmos, BBC Micro, Electron, MSX, IBM PC, New Brain, RC Piccolo, Amstrad CPC, Dragon 32, Texas Instruments 99/4A and so on.

Next entry... wait until I get everything. I'm just beginning...

If someone wants to know of any particular magazine, which included a software section dedicated to these type-ins, just tell me at comments box.

For instance, I start recommending several webs to look at. Few of them still alive but without any progress or not being updated for quite a few years:
